Red Gables Hotel

red gables hotel penmaenmawr-0032

The now derelict Red Gables Hotel in Penmaenmawr was the scene of North Wales’ worst ever mass murder on 25th July 1976, when the Hotel’s former Gardener, Neil Rutherford, killed 4 people at the Hotel before setting it alight and then shooting himself. This photo shows the former Reception area, which has been heavily vandalised since the Hotel closed in 2004.

Plas Rhianfa, Beaumaris

A French Chateau in North Wales? Sure is, this is Plas Rhianfa on the banks of the Menai Straits. The photo shows it when it was being renovated into a luxury hotel back in 2011 – what a nice place it must be to stay…

Facade

Looking along the facade of Gwrych Castle in Abergele. In the 1960s, it was one of North Wales’ top tourist attractions but it had become a derelict ruin by the late 1990s. Plans were recently unveiled to renovate it into a luxury hotel and spa.
