End of the Pier, Beaumaris

End of the Pier at the small seaside town of Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey. The Pier has recently received a major makeover/renovation that has (in my view) sadly removed some of the charm visible in this shot. More photos of Beaumaris can be found on my Flickr website here.

Lost Mansion of Baron Hill

The once vast mansion of Baron Hill has lain undisturbed in the woodlands outside Beaumaris since the end of the Second World War. Over the years, nature has gently reclaimed the once grand Neo-Palladian buildings and carefully manicured gardens, leaving only vestiges of the former glory visible. There are plans in the offing to renovate this property into 43 apartments. A full 102 Photo Tour of the Mansion & Gardens can be found on my Flickr account here.

Passing Of An Era…

I recently paid a visit to the disused Maenofferen Slate Quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog with  fellow photographer Jason Edwards. We found these massive sheds that were still full of slate cutting and trimming machinery, old railway engines, wagons, tools – all just left when it closed back in 1997. As I wandered around, I found it sad that this way of life that had for so long provided valuable employment for so many local people had just ceased to be.
