This is the remains of the former RAF Bomb Store at Glyn Rhonwy, Llanberis. During World War II, it stored over 20% of the RAF’s total bomb reserves. It was built to be an underground shelter, protected by tons of slate waste lying on its roof, but a design flaw meant that the roof of the entire section visible in this photo collapsed not long after opening. The site was cleared, continued to be used up the 1950s, but was never rebuilt. Photo taken on one of the wettest days of the year in April 2012!
